David's background is based around pressing buttons after a stint in the bank (and even an office job somewhere).
After eight years in a bank he sought work in sound recording for film and television and secured a job at a studio which, among other projects, added the sound (called post-synching) to "Skippy". After several years, following a downturn in the film industry, Robin Hill Recordings ceased operation. David's fingers itched for buttons so he went on to Radio 2UE Sydney at their state-of-the-art studios as a control room operator, sometimes panel operator and security guard. His next move was to Channel Nine Sydney (it's just like radio except it has pictures!) as a presentation operator and co-ordinator,
In 1974, he was approached to become the founding station manager (at the ripe young age of 28) for the Music Broadcasting Society's ground-breaking radio station 2MBS-FM, the first stereo FM radio station in Australia. This position required management of a radio station with little or no equipment, but with about 400 volunteers. David spends some of his leisure time there now, as one of the 300 volunteers in a modern building with 4 studios and an all-digital installation.
Needing a new challenge, David moved to the fledgling SBS TV, (then known as 0-28), where he was promoted to presentation manager, after a stint at on-air coordinating, studio and some location directing.
1989 saw him owning his own business; initially in desktop publishing when it was all the rage, then moving using those skills and equipment to do typesetting and design. The internet started looming and revealed opportunities to design websites that people could later break and we could keep fixing.
David's involvement in Rotary started in 1998 with Rydalmere Club. He was President twice and held many other positions, (except Treasurer). Rydalmere Club closed in 2008 and David transferred, along with three other former Rydalmere-ians to Ryde Club where he has been Serjeant (this is the correct spelling in this context!), PA system runner (another opportunity to press buttons) and is currently Treasurer where the major button pressing opportunities are limited to the calculator.
David's other interests are film (viewing of...), photography, cricket (viewing of...) , travel, good food, fine wine and beer.
