Last weekend Ryde Rotary completed their major local community service project – a working bee to repair and make usable the playground at ‘Brighter Futures’, North Ryde.
This important early intervention program for families facing difficult times is a huge asset to the local area, as it gives children hope and refuge when times are tough. The problem was the playground was not safe to use. The sandy area around the equipment was too small, not meeting the safety regulations of having sufficient distance from the equipment in case of falls.
The entire area had to be expanded, requiring a great deal of man-power, which Rotary was happy to provide over three weekends. There was a lot of drilling, sawing and sledge-hammering, but in the end the result was amazing. A brand new safe play area for the kids is now fully operational, and the kids love it.
