The School of Saint Jude, Tanzania
An Australian woman, originally from Guyra NSW, runs The School of St Jude in Tanzania with a lot of financial help from Australian Rotarians. The Board of the Rotary Club of Ryde has recently agreed to support a St Jude student for another year.
Additionally, Ryde member, Les Whitcroft, a past District Governor of Rotary and a generous private supporter of St Jude, is travelling to Africa next week to visit the school and reinforce his support.
The School of St Jude is a fascinating success story in breaking the poverty-no education cycle in Tanzania. It has been featured on Australian television and it’s web site is well worth browsing. This organization answers the question that arises when we consider the pitiful state of so many societies around the world, “what can I do?”. The founder, Gemma Sissia, is sowing the seeds for a future civil society in Tanzania. The Rotary Club of Ryde is behind her.
